Expedtion to Castle Ravenloft


Session 5 (G'Jun, Serratis, Rediculis, Dilok)


Spending the night in the tiny hut the party rests. Dilok destroys the 'unfingered hand' and ages himself. Returns to the guild and does some research about the Monastery of Silver Threads. Apparently it was a repository of strange magic items as well a royal crypt to the Von Zaroviches prior to the acquisition of Castle Ravenloft.
When they awake the party makes ready to 'leave' and they walk away for 10 minutes then hide. Serratis uses invisibility and returns to the underground chamber. Night comes darkness sets in...time passes...midnight comes.... Serratis wonders why nothing has happened and realizes that is is dark down here but it now seems like magical darkness. He uses a dispel and knows again that he did it but it remains dark. Using his recollection of where the circle is he shoots a fireball only to have darkness and silence go off around him.
He runs away for a few but finds himself off course as he enters the circle with the witches and Baba Zelenna there is no sound. Serratis scorching rays the hag, she retorts with ray of enfeeblement and he is paralyzed. Baba uses some of Serratis' blood in the ritual and Chernovog is summoned. He promptly eats all but one of the human assistant witches and uses his soften earth and stone to sink Serratis into the stone with his head out. For ten minutes they prepare and the rest of the party moves toward them.

Chernovog floods the lower portion of the fane after moving Serratis just his head is exposed. The party enters the lower portion and enters damning darkness and walks around for a while. Finds the drop off and all the water and they opt for going the other way. Between the babau and Chernovog and Baba they darkness the whole place and silence a few places as well. Chernovog grapples Rediculis and pulls him under the water. Drags him and places him in a niche in the wall. Dilok and G'Jun walk around in the dark tunnels but find water again. Then Chernovog attempts to possess Rediculis and fails. Then he tries Serratis and succeeds. The water and Chernovog disappear. The hag and the last human witch is gone as well.
Serratis/Chernovog spots the hag and cone of colds her then G'Jun charges and kills her. G'Jun throws her body on the fane and the humming stops. Serratis/Chernovog then says lets stay here for a while and begins a vigil at the circle. 8 hours later the humming starts again and he asks Dilok about anything he knows. Dilok mentions the Monastery of Silver Threads. The party decides to go there. So they start walking.
Mount Baratok stands formidibly in the clouds in the distance. The party moves mostly at night so Dilok can rest and regain his powers. He sleeps and feeds then flies to catch up with the party. Four days of travel then they can begin the ascent.
